Young Ingenuity Program

Young Ingenuity Program

Initiated in 2022, the Young Ingenuity Program encourages learning activities through mechanical and technical projects that are assigned to interested students. For the inaugural project the museum provided 13-year-old student Israel Jones with an antique searchlight to restore a signal light that now sits as an interactive exhibit in the train depot.

Israel presented his completed project to his classroom in Lufkin, museum visitors, and recorded it for You Tube. The Young Ingenuity Program is a stimulating program for youth to immerse themselves in technology and mechanical projects. Mentors work closely on each project with the student, and quarterly gatherings at the museum provide a platform for networking, sharing, and submitting final products to the museum for exhibition. All students who are interested are encouraged to contact the museum.
