GALVESTON, TX – Enjoy cultural cuisine and the intrigue of a train ride aboard the Morris Spencer Gould,  Sr., Saturday, June 13, at the Galveston Railroad Museum’s Annual Harvey House Dinner. A celebration of the  evolution of African American food coupled with the legend of the Harvey House Diner, once located in the  1932 Train Depot, takes us a step back in time for a memorable evening.  

The all-inclusive evening featuring recipes from A Taste of the Gulf Coast: The Art & Soul of Southern  Cooking, includes cordials, a seated dinner, wine, dessert, and entertainment. Reservations are required, $150  per person, and limited seating is at tables for four. A Taste of the Gulf Coast: The Art & Soul of Southern Cooking by Jessie Tirsch, pays homage to down-home  cooking and features recipes by Galvestonian and author Anthony Griffin. Griffin, who will speak on the  anthropology of African American food culture at the museum on Friday, September 12, and will share his  recipes from the book for the Harvey House Dinner. The hearty flavors and ethnic accents inspire outstanding  meals to make us feel warm inside and out.  

Anthony Griffin, author of The Water Cries tells the story of the slave markets in Galveston, Texas. He will  speak and sign books on Sunday, June 14, at 2 pm, at the museum.  

The Water Cries and A Taste of the Gulf Coast: The Art & Soul of Southern Cooking are available for purchase  in the museum store located in the Train Depot.  

The Harvey House Dinner is hosted aboard the Morris Spencer Gluld,Sr. dining car built in 1990 by the  Bombardier Company for Amtrak. A fully restored dinette, the car features a serving galley and comfortable  four-seat dining booths. 

Train rides are not just for kids! We all enjoy stepping into a new experience and the Harvey House Dinner  will not disappoint. Guests are asked to arrive on time as the train will leave the station prior to dinner being  served, so jump onboard and let us serve you! Dinner Attire: Dressy Casual
