The Center for Transportation, Galveston Railroad Museum, will dedicate a railcar in honor of Dr. John R. Bertini, Jr., on Wednesday, March 30, 4 pm, at 2602 Santa Fe Place. The public is invited to attend.

Dr. John R. Bertini, Jr., board certified Urologist at St. Joseph Medical Place 1, Houston, will be honored by the board of Directors and membership for his dedication and commitment to the Galveston Railroad Museum. Serving since the year 2000, Bertini has been instrumental to the museum’s success and
recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Ike. Influential as an active Director, Vice Chair and Chairman of the Board at the museum. He has served as the Chairman of the Passenger Rail Sub-Committee and as Director of the Texas Association of Rail Passengers, in addition to numerous other medical related organizations of which he has been active.

The Center for Transportation and Commerce, The Railroad Museum, is dedicated to the restoration, observation, and re-use of its historic facilities and equipment for the development of educational and interactive programs, which support railroading and transportation initiatives serving our regional
community.

Formerly Galveston Union Station, The Center for Transportation and Commerce was established by a Moody Foundation grant in 1972 initiated by Mary Moody Northen. The grant funded the restoration and repurposing of the Santa Fe Building, now known as Shearn Moody Plaza. Situated on 5 acres of railyard, the station was once a thriving, operating train station that served major railroad companies including Union Pacific, Santa Fe Railroad, and Southern Pacific Railroad, who transported merchandise to and
from the Galveston Wharves to various locations across the United States.

Opening to the public in 1982 at The Galveston Railroad Museum, the 501 c(3) non-profit organization offered educational exhibits and the opportunity for the public to immerse themselves in the rich history of the railroad both locally and nationally. The museum continued to thrive until Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston Island and flooded the entire museum including the railcars.

A talented volunteer and extraordinary leader, Dr. John Bertini has given his time and talent to the betterment and well being of the Galveston Railroad Museum. The Museum is greatly appreciative and honored to recognize him.

Dedication will be at 4 pm, Wednesday, March 30. Parking is complimentary parking is available at 2602 Santa Fe Place. A reception will follow on the Bonnie Brooke.
